Los Angeles. Tonight will be the kick off for a hip-hop series called “Through The Mic” at LACMA. This is the first time LACMA will have a hip-hop concert at its doors. You don’t want to miss this!
To start off the series, there will be performance by Murs, Eligh, and Scarub, formerly known as 3 Melancholy Gypsys, a L.A. based group reuniting specifically for this LACMA performance.
**update. looks like general admission tickets are sold out! yikes! but keep a look out for Through the Mic next month when Dumbfounded will be performing. dope.
WARMING THINGS UP
Karmaloop is investing $200,000 to establish a nonprofit advocacy organization called the Future Boston Alliance which launches this wednesday. They want to make the city of Boston more attractive for artists, musicians, and designers who could start small businesses there. Kamaloop CEO Greg Selkoe said, ” If boston isn’t fun, and there aren’t a lot of creative things happening there, that’s very bad for the entrepreneurial environment… there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be the start-up hub of the universe.” In addition, he also finds Boston “cold and conservative.”

Saturday, April 28th was the Annual White House Correspondent’s Dinner. President Obama made his love for Hip Hop known and even made a shout out to Young Jeezy. President Obama stated, ” In my first term I sang Al Green. In my second term, I’m going with Young Jeezy.” He then adds that he also sings it sometimes to his wife, Michelle, who sits there laughing and agrees.

Hip-hop comes to LACMA in the form of Through the Mic, a series of concerts that provides a stage for the music that has helped shaped, and been shaped by, Los Angeles. Through a collaboration between Murs and LACMA, Through the Mic will offer performances on the third Thursday of every month from May - October. Murs, Eligh and Scarub are the trio behind 3MG, also known as 3 Melancholy Gypsys, and will kick off the series on May 17 so make sure to grab your ticket when they go on sale to the general public on Monday April 23!
